The Student Assistant in IT Administration supports the smooth operation of Climate Analytics’ IT environment and ensures that staff have reliable access to the tools and systems they need to work efficiently. In close collaboration with our experienced IT Administrator and our external IT service provider, the working student contributes to day-to-day IT support, user onboarding and offboarding, and basic device setup and maintenance. Through this position, the student will gain hands-on experience in IT operations, user support, and system administration — contributing directly to the reliability, security, and efficiency of the Climate Analytics’ IT infrastructure. In addition, you will support IT projects (with supervision), such as documentation and process improvement initiatives - an opportunity to learn new tools and best practices and get hands-on experience in IT operations and user support.

Your Responsibilities

1. IT Support and Ticket Handling (35–45%)
  • Assist in managing incoming IT support tickets, helping to diagnose and resolve basic software, hardware, and access issues.
  • Provide friendly, timely, and solution-oriented support to employees across all departments.
2. Device Setup and Maintenance (25–35%)
  • Prepare, configure, and update laptops (primarily macOS, some Windows) for new and existing employees.
  • Support regular device maintenance tasks such as system updates, security checks, and troubleshooting.
  • Help maintain an accurate inventory of devices and peripherals.
3. System and Server Administration (with Supervision) (10–15%)
  • Support the IT Administration Officer and external IT service provider in monitoring internal servers and hosted tools.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as restarting services or checking system status, under guidance.
  • Help ensure regular backups and data integrity checks are completed.
4. Documentation and Process Improvement (10–15%)
  • Contribute to documenting IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Help identify opportunities to streamline IT workflows or improve user documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining records related to software licenses and system configurations.
5. Security and Compliance Support (5–10%)
  • Follow IT security guidelines and support implementation of best practices (e.g. password policies, device encryption, access control).

Your profile

Essential criteria
Education and Experience
  • IT administration / user support: prior hands-on experience in a work context
  • Fluency in English
  • Currently enrolled in an IT admin/support related university program with min. 12+ months of enrollment left
  • Residing in the Berlin area
  • Open to 100% onsite presence in our Berlin office during probation period and 80% afterwards
Specific Expertise Required
  • macOS experience, in a work context
  • Scripting experience, at least basic (needed for our servers)
Desirable criteria
Preferred Experience
  • Python skills (for scripts, server communication, applications)
  • Basic experience with Windows
  • Basic experience with Linux based systems, ideally in a work context (for servers)
  • Basic understanding of network or server administration concepts (e.g., FTP, SSH, SSL).
  • Some experience with cloud-based systems or IT ticketing tools.
Desirable Soft Skills
  • Good communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and manage priorities.

Conditions

  • Duration: We are looking for a long-term collaboration. Currently we can offer a fixed term contract for 12 months with the perspective of extension based on performance and funding.
  • Remuneration: Level 1 Step 1 on our remuneration scale (EUR 1420 gross monthly, based on a 20-hour work week).
  • Vacation: 29 days paid annual leave for each year worked (pro rata) + one day gifted around Christmas.
