Job description
We are currently seeking a Senior DevOps Consultant for our Climate Policy Team in our
Headquarters in Berlin.

The team is engaged in various projects on climate change mitigation, in particular on energy system transformation, on evaluation of emissions scenarios, the 1.5°C global warming limit and the evaluation of national climate action. This includes flagship projects, such as the Climate Action Tracker and the National Pathways Explorer, for which data is being processed and analysed in-house and then published on the respective project websites.

Your Responsibilities
  • You will help to build and maintain a data platform for advanced analytics and climate modelling, spanning devops and data engineering work,
  • Design and implement organisation-scale data infrastructure strategies, and establish standards across the organization,
  • Set up metrics and ensure the reliability, monitoring, and performance optimization of the platform,
  • Contribute to the standardization of production data workflows,
  • Provide technical guidance to data analysts and scientists and cross-functional teams and drive adoption of best practices in DataOps, security, and governance,
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proof-of-concepts for new data tools and platforms, and help define the technical roadmap for data infrastructure modernization.
Your profile
Relevant Tech Skills

Required:
  • Python, shell scripting
  • Linux
  • Containerisation (Docker)
  • Excellent understanding of software delivery practices and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLabCI and configuration management
  • Experience applying DevOps practices
  • Monitoring tools (like Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Experience in an operational environment with a solid understanding of distributed systems
Nice to have:
  • Proficiency in operating JupyterHub
  • Experience with Airflow
  • Infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform for automated deployments
  • Have actively applied data governance principles to manage data quality, security, and compliance, and understand how to implement controls that protect sensitive information
Qualifications

You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:
  • You have more than 5 years of experience as a DataOps Engineer or in a similar role, with a proven track record of building and maintaining complex data infrastructures
  • You are experienced with CI/CD tools and methodologies for data-related projects, and can build automated pipelines that streamline development, testing, and deployment
  • You are an excellent troubleshooter who excels at diagnosing and fixing data infrastructure and identifying performance bottlenecks
  • A strong communicator and a team player who can work efficiently with others, in a diverse, interdisciplinary and international team
  • Passionate about working at the intersection of Climate Science and Data Engineering (tell us about relevant projects you’ve worked on!)
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and motivated self-starter with strong analytical skills.
  • Interest in and proven ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills in English
