Finance Assistant for Africa Office, based in Lomé, Togo (m/f/d)

Job description
We are currently seeking an Finance Assistant for our international and diverse Lomé Team to work under the supervision of the Finance Officer and the Office Director.  The position involves overseeing day-to-day financial accounting operations for Togo office, ensuring accurate and timely transaction processing, effective management of payables and receivables, and compliance with local tax and SYCEBNL accounting regulations.

Accounting and Bookkeeping
  • Assist in recording day-to-day financial transactions in the Eto-Compta and Deltek Maconomy accounting system in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support the management of accounts payable and receivable by preparing invoices, processing payments, and following up on outstanding items
  • Maintain organised and up-to-date accounting files and supporting documentation.
  • Help monitor petty cash transactions and prepare monthly reconciliations under the supervision of the Finance Officer
  • Support month-end closing procedures, including bank reconciliations and data entry
  • Ensure proper filing and documentation of all accounting records in line with organisational policies
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining good bookkeeping practices and internal financial controls
  • Support project teams in project implementation such as finance and administrative support during field visits and activities  
  • Help prepare and check project budgets and financial reports
  • Support project and finance teams in documentation for project audits
Statutory Compliance and Reporting 
  • Support the preparation and submission of tax and social security declarations under the guidance of the Finance Officer
  • Support the preparation of financial statements in accordance with local accounting regulations and the SYCEBNL framework, liaising proactively with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors as necessary. 
  • Assist in collecting and organising information for VAT returns and other statutory filings
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for audits and external reviews
  • Ensure financial data is accurate and consistent across ledgers and reports
  • Provide administrative support to the finance officer as needed
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes
Your profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, financial management, or a related discipline
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in a comparable position, ideally within Togo.
  • Strong understanding of tax matters, particularly VAT, under Togolese law and the SYCEBNL accounting system.
  • Experience in managing accounting for grants from institutional donors and/or multilateral organizations.
  • Proficiency in Eto Compta and ERP systems and excellent command of Microsoft Excel
  • Fluency in both French and English (spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail with a structured and reliable work ethic.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within an international and diverse environment.

Conditions

  • Terms: Initial 1-year employment contract with a view to extend 2-years based on performance and funding, we are interested in and seek long-term cooperation
