Job description
We are currently seeking a National Consultant in Industry and Waste for a project in Gabon. The consultant will provide technical expertise and analytical support to the NDC 3.0 development process, focusing on the industry and waste sectors. He will contribute to assess the progress in the NDC 2.0 implementation in the industry and waste sectors, sectoral stakeholders’ engagement, data collection and analysis, GHG modeling, identification, analysis and prioritization of mitigation and adaptation measures in the sectors, ensuring alignment with national development priorities and the Paris agreement.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Director of the Project Lead
- Facilitate consultations with relevant ministries (industry, waste)
- Gather and analyze data on industrial production and related GHG emissions from key industrial sub-sectors (e.g. Manufacturing, cement, steel, chemicals) and on waste
- Assess current and projected industrial activity and its associated emissions
- Analyze the costs, benefits and feasibility of implementing these measures at scale
- Develop and evaluate scenarios for GHG emission reductions in the industrial and waste sector, considering different adoption rates and policy interventions.
- Assess the mitigation potential of various technologies and measures in the industrial sector. Process optimization and technological upgrades, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) (where applicable). Circular economy approaches and resource efficiency etc.
- Identify, assess, and prioritize sectoral measures, and interventions for adaptation and mitigation including ongoing projects
- Contribute to estimate costs of proposed measures and identify financing needs and options
- Draft and provide technical inputs for the Industry and Waste sections of the NDC
- Participate technical workshop and validation workshop
