About the Climate Diplomacy Team and Project
Climate Analytics Caribbean, based in Trinidad and Tobago supports governments in translating international climate agreements into national targets, policies and governance arrangements. The Caribbean office also works with regional civil society to raise awareness and knowledge about climate change, its impacts and the implications of the global discussion for the Caribbean. Current focus areas include research on adaptation and loss and damage, as well as policy approaches to the just transition and climate justice.

Job Description
The Senior Advisor on SIDS Sustainable Development Finance will be a member of Climate Analytics support team to the Alliance of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS). This role is instrumental in providing strategic advice and in-person diplomatic support on matters related to finance and development finance challenges specific to SIDS. The Senior Advisor will coordinate CA’s support to the AOSIS Chair.

Your Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Head of Climate Diplomacy Team your key responsibilities will include:
  • Provides strategic insight, technical advice and support on matters related to development finance and sustainable development in SIDS
  • Provides in-person support as needed for the preparation of briefs, statements and talking points
  • Undertakes research and report writing, and the development of policy briefs to support science and evidence-based solutions in the development finance and sustainable development fora
  • Participates in international meetings
  • Advances key partnerships with donors for Climate Analytics and to advance SIDS-specific solutions in the development finance architecture
  • Assists with coordination of Climate Analytics support to SIDS and AOSIS
  • Supports the work of the Diplomacy Team
  • Supporting broader activities of Climate Analytics in other projects particularly in the Caribbean office and support similar work undertaken in the other regions
  • Providing input for management and reporting on projects, and dissemination of results including lesson learned and best practices.


Your profile
  • At least 7 years of experience working in a multilateral environment on development finance, sustainable development, climate change, oceans
  • Post-graduate degree in international relations or related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English
  • Highly motivated, self-starting and ability to work independently
  • Extensive knowledge of issues pertaining to the sustainable development of small island developing states
  • Advanced understanding of the relationship between development finance and climate finance in a SIDS-specific context 
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information gathered from background research across multiple sources and present key findings in a concise and accessible format
  • Experience working with AOSIS would be an asset
  • Project management qualifications would be an asset

  • Location: This role will be contracted with our Climate Analytics gGmbH office in Berlin. However, we are open to candidates working fully remotely, depending on candidate preferences and organizational requirements. 
  • Terms: Fixed-term consultancy contract with perspective of extension
