Job description
We are currently seeking a Sr Climate Policy Analyst for our international and diverse Climate Policy Team. The team is engaged in various projects on climate change mitigation, in particular on energy system transformation, methane reductions, the 1.5°C global warming limit, evaluation of national climate action, and analyses of the socio-economic co-benefits of climate change mitigation measures.

You will lead CA’s work on tracking and assessing methane reductions as well as working across other flagship projects, with a focus on assessing national and sectoral climate change targets, policies and action.

Your responsibilities

  • You lead and guide CA’s main project for tracking and assessing the trends and impacts of methane targets and policies, and contribute to various other CA projects, (including the Climate Action Tracker, 1.5 National Pathways Explorer projects), by analysing policy developments 
  • You will undertake independent structured research and review of climate policy literature – both economy-wide and sectoral (energy, agriculture, waste)
  • You will analyse relevant emissions data across sectors, including emissions inventories and projections, mitigation strategies, technology, and demand changes, and related uncertainties, with a focus on sectoral transformations and their contribution to climate mitigation
  • You will draw lessons from these data to deliver policy-relevant analyses and research by leading reports, work papers, briefings and other information material  
  • You contribute to the outreach associated with policy analyses, including media interviews and written outputs such as blogs 
  • You guide and manage the inputs of colleagues across CA who are working on methane assessments
  • You represent the organisation in media interviews 
  • You prepare and participate in partner meetings, workshops and other events as needed (which may incl. travel within the EU and beyond) 
  • You work within the Climate Policy Team as well as more broadly within Climate Analytics to support the timely delivery of policy analyses and the efficient use of resources 
  • You support the development and acquisition of new projects

Your profile
You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills: 
  • A graduate degree in environmental or climate-related fields of study such as environmental management, social sciences, environmental sciences, or a related field  
  • At least seven years of working experience in climate or energy policy-related fields 
  • Knowledge of emissions trends and drivers in the energy and agriculture sectors – and related uncertainties 
  • Knowledge of the energy and climate policy in specific countries is an advantage. 
  • Familiarity with national GHG emissions inventories, energy system composition and sectoral energy trends is desirable 
  • Analytical skills and the ability to work with quantitative data (e.g., emissions and energy data, undertaking assessments using quantitative indicators etc.) is a requirement 
  • Excellent English writing and verbal skills are a requirement; effective communication in one or more languages of the EU member states is a plus  
  • Experience in project management and coordination, as well as in personnel management 
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel is required  
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and motivated self-starter 
  • Interest in and proven ability to work in a diverse, interdisciplinary and international team   
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Terms: We are looking for a long-term collaboration. We can offer a fixed-term contract for 2 years, with the perspective of extension based on performance and funding.
