Your responsibilities
The Head of Finance analyses and interprets financial rules and regulations and provides solutions for a wide spectrum of financial issues, promoting a collaborative, partner-oriented approach consistent with Climate Analytics rules and regulations. Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer the Head of Finance is responsible
for the following:

Strategic Advice and Guidance
  • Strategic and technical advice and timely performance management reports to Climate Analytics projects, programmes, and Executive Team, to enable and encourage informed management engagement on financial issues.
  • Advice to Climate Analytics Management Team on cost reduction strategies aimed at maintaining Climate Analytics financial sustainability.
  • Provide advice to the Climate Analytics Executive Team on financial performance against annual expenditures with the purpose of informed strategic decision and resource allocation in line with the organizational priorities.
  • Review, analysis and assessment of data for finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals, and direct support during the development and implementation of project development to ensure efficient financial implementation and adherence to both Climate Analytics and partners budget policies.
  • Actively participate in the interoffice discussions and meetings in respect to financial arrangements and procedures which affect the financial operations in country

Financial Management, Reporting and Controls
  • Continuous review of financial and accounting operations ensuring adequate financial controls are in place to protect financial resources and ensure reliability of data and financial reports.
  • Development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines and control mechanisms, in conformity with Climate Analytics rules and regulations.
  • Advice over the Overhead budgets of each of the Climate Analytics entities including review, analysis, reporting, monitoring performance and identification of administrative budgetary requirements as well as provision of guidance on budget preparation and the procedures for submission to facilitate consolidation at the regional level.
  • Timely and accurate financial reports to funding sources in accordance with established donor requirements
  • Management of Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable including payroll and development of reporting mechanisms.
  • Account review, analysis and reconciliation, ensuring the quality and accuracy of the financial data disclosed in the certified financial statements; Implement related and effective risk management actions.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual closure activities for Climate Analytics in accordance with standard accounting practices and local regulations
  • Preparation of financial statements, and management of audit activities, including planning, preparation and coordination during the audit engagements and follow up on audit observations/recommendations; Implement necessary changes to strengthen financial controls.
  • Establish, manage and maintain arrangements with commercial banks in relevant countries of operation to achieve cost-effectiveness and secure payments.
  • Development and implementation of cash flow planning.

Financial Knowledge Management and Capacity Building
  • Contribute to develop the capacity of stakeholders in financial accounting by leading, organizing and conducting training/workshops, identifying expert resources to facilitate as needed.
  • Synthesize and disseminate lessons learned and best practices in finance, and offer sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Provide technical guidance and on the job training to ensure work standards are achieved, both in terms of quality and quantity of inputs/outputs processed
  • Development of internal capacity across Climate Analytics in financial accounting.

Leadership and Team Development
  • Provide leadership and direction to the finance team fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop staff, identifying opportunities for growth and professional development that align with organizational objectives and personal aspirations.

Context
We are currently seeking a Head of Finance to manage the global financial functions of Climate Analytics and to lead the finance team. You will report to the COO and be a key member of Climate Analytics’ Management Team. The smooth running of the organisation’s finances, including the provision of advice on strategic and risk related
matters to senior management, will be the central objective of this position based in Berlin.
The position needs to foster a global CA perspective for financial operations in support of the organisation’s programmes and offices, and ensure alignment with the organisation’s goals and strategy.
Your profile
You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in the above mentioned fields, with an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of Master’s Degree.
  • Formal Qualification in accounting is preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in financial management and accounting.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in supervising and managing teams
  • Knowledge of international accounting and financial reporting standards is required.
  • Hands on experience with non-profit administrative/financial regulations and rules as well as procurement procedures would be an asset.
  • Experience in donor and inter-company accounting and budgeting is required.
  • Experience in handling project based financial management issues at the international level is required.
  • Knowledge of budgetary procedures, policies and practices is required.

Skills
  • Competency in office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, as well as familiarity with modern office technology and information systems. Experience in ERP and Power BI would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of inspiring confidence and support among stakeholders, partners, and team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen understanding of the climate finance landscape and opportunities for innovation in funding mechanisms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and cultures, with a commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity.
  • A commitment to the organization's mission and core values, demonstrating integrity and ethical conduct in all professional dealings.
  • Our working language is English, therefore excellent English writing and verbal skills are necessary, German is desirable.
